Highlights of the Tournament:

After shutting out there first three opponents behind a Duncan Satterlee no hitter and a Ryan Lambert 2 hitter the Colonie International All-star team ran into a tough Pinebush American squad and fell behind 1 – 0 heading to the top of the sixth.  The boys rallied and put up three runs to take the lead but couldn’t close it out as Pinebush won the game on a walk off double with 2 outs in the bottom of the sixth.   Both Andrew Dinovo and Adam Tenney had 2 hits for the game.

Needing a win Sunday afternoon to advance to the district championship Andrew Dinovo took the hill in his first all-star pitching appearance.  Throwing 2 gutty innings Andrew left with a 3 – 1 lead as a result of a Jason Grandeau rbi single in the first and Bobby Roemer and Ryan Lambert rbi singles in the second.  JJ Papielion came on in middle relief to throw 2 innings and aided by outfield assists from Nick Blaauboer and Greg Mazzie left with a 6 – 3 lead.  Colonie got its runs from a Greg Mazzie rbi single (Greg was 2 – 2 with a 1b and a 2b) and a Ryan Lambert 2 run homerun over the silver monster in left scoring James Hutton who had a clutch pinch hit single to start the inning. Jason Grandeau came in to pitch the final two innings and close out the victory on 17 pitches with one K and a huge play from JJ Papielion in center who caught a deep drive and threw out the runner tagging from third with a perfect strike to all-star catcher Coby Brickner to end the 5th inning.

Of special note during the run to the championship the Rennells twins, Josh and Tommy, have each had a hit and played flawless defense in there first all-star experience.  What a thrill for these 9 year olds to be playing against the 11 and 12’s from Pinebush.  The boys are looking forward to there rematch against Pinebush American Wednesday night under the lights.
